چکیده

Abstract Some of the most promising potential applications nanotechnology to hydraulic fracturing coal seam gas (CSG) are reviewed with a focus on Australian CSG wells. Three propitious were identified: (1) Nanoparticle enhanced viscoelastic surfactants (VES) fluids prevent fluid loss by up 30%, made possible formation pseudo-filter cakes and reducing viscosity VES fluids. Besides, there is no requirement clay control additives or biocides. (2) Nano-proppants extend fracture networks reduce proppant embedment introducing them prior emplacement larger proppants. Fly Ash nanoparticles can be particularly effective because their high sphericity mechanical strength. (3) Nanoparticle-coated proppants, mitigate migration particle fines restricting close source adsorption, MgO being effective. The use in currently hindered due discordant regulatory environment compounded cost themselves, as well as, lack field data validate technology under real downhole conditions. Although necessary tests unlikely conducted for long abundant natural available, exploratory studies could pave way future applications. Graphical abstract

Hydraulic Fracturing of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

A carefully engineered stimulation that makes use of opening mode fractures is an effective way to reduce injection and production impedance and provide better access for the fluid to enter and promote shearing in the main reservoir volume. We present results from field experiments that mapped the fracture geometry for opening mode hydraulic fractures formed in naturally fractured crystalline r...

Recent Advances in Hydraulic Fracturing for Enhanced Well Productivity: State of the Art Report

Hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells is considered as the main reason for the phenomenal increase in production of oil and gas from marginal and unconventional reservoirs in North America. The process evolution started more than a decade ago and has resulted in ultra-low permeability reservoirs producing at close to the same rates as some of the very prolific reservoirs in the Middle East,...

Differentiating Applications of Hydraulic Fracturing

Hydraulic fracturing has received abundant media attention in recent years due to a rapid increase in the use of the technique in combination with horizontal drilling technology to produce oil and gas resources from tight reservoirs. Hydraulic fracturing techniques are also used in a variety of other applications that are unrelated to oil and gas production, includ‐ ing tunnel and dam construct...

Health Effects of Coal Seam Gas - Tara

I visited Tara on 11 and 12 October as requested, to undertake a review of individuals who believe their health has been adversely affected as a result of coal seam gas exploration being undertaken in the region. Queensland Health provided the consultation room with the Tara health facility, and also advertised my attendance, and made appointments for those families and individuals who telephon...
